Packing for Iceland | Nan McKay

Iceland

What should I pack in one suitcase for a swing from 44-93 degrees? Rain to a lot of sun?

Let’s start with the cold weather. The temperature this time of year in Norway is 47-63. I’m then going to fly to Reykjavik, Iceland where the temperature is 44-53. After a few days in Reykjavik, we will board a cruise ship for a 9-night Iceland Intensive Voyage which ends in Copenhagen where I’ll stay in the Marriott Copenhagen for three days to sight-see there.

So what to pack to for cold weather by plane, train, and ship?

We are first going to Bergen, Norway.  After a day to recoup and sight-see in Bergen, we will take a three-hour train ride to Flam to stay the night. In the morning we will board the Flåm Railway, described as one of the most beautiful train journeys in the world and one of the leading tourist attractions in Norway.

For the traipsing around, I’ll pack my fleece-lined rain jacket with a hood that I bought in Alaska.

I’ll dress in layers with a black turtleneck under a black cowl-neck sweater and the jacket on top. I have two of each of these, so I’ll pack both. I’ll pack 4 of the Champion legging/pants and three pair of underwear. I’ll pack my SAS lace-up black shoes and a couple of pairs of socks.

In Reykjavik, we are staying at the Marriott Reykjavik Edition, so I’ll need something dressier. I have a black top that is silky. I’ll take my black and white sweater on the plane and wear that with the silkier top when I go to dinner. I can probably find another couple of tops for the cruise. I’ll take my Skechers Goga shoes for that outfit.

Next I’ll pack for the hot weather. Still in one suitcase.
